the height threads always end with someone saying 'just get LL bro'. as the procedures guy, here's the unromantic reality of limb lengthening so you can decide with open eyes.
WHAT IT IS: surgeons cut your femurs (or tibias), insert an internal nail (precice) or external frame, and you lengthen ~1mm/day over weeks as new bone forms in the gap.
REALITY:
- typical gain: ~5cm femur, ~5-6.5cm tibia (tibia is riskier/more painful)
- cost: $70k-100k+ at reputable surgeons
- recovery: months of intense physio, you cannot walk normally for a while, full recovery 1-2 years
- risks: nerve damage, fat embolism, contractures, malalignment, lost athletic ceiling
- you WILL lose some athleticism/flexibility, especially with tibia
it genuinely works and changes lives for the right candidate (a guy whose ONLY failo is being very short). it is NOT a casual decision and not for someone who's 5'9 and greedy. respect the procedure. not medical advice.
